Health Safety - Sewerage GovanMbeki District

SEWERAGE POLUTION A DANGER TO OUR FUTRURE

With our irresponsible actions on the short term we can cause everlasting damage to the future of our country.

The problem of waste water (sewerage) that ends up in our  rivers, streams and eventually in our water supply systems, can cause major problems.

ARIAL PHOTO OF POLUTION NEAR EVANDER

This is not only a municipal problem, or a provincial problem; this is not only a potential water purification  problem, but also a health risk.  Water born deceases such as cholera and others can kill people.

The sewerage that flows into the streams and dams in the Govan Mbeki district flow into, amongst others, the "Waterval" river, then flows into the Vaal river and into one of our biggest water supply dams the Vaal dam.

The sewerage not only pollutes the water in the Govan Mbeki district and the Mpumalanga Province, but also that of the Gauteng Province.

RAW SEWERAGE FLOWING INTO OUR STREAMS - EVANDER

There seems to be a lack of commitment to find solutions to this on going problem. There are either a lack of leadership or a lack of knowledge concerning this issue, or both.

Reporting in the newspapers and on TV, regarding this problem, have resulted in nothing. Even a visitation of people from the department of Water Affairs in Pretoria, and the two written letters with feedback concerning the inspection and problem in our district, only resulted in attention been given to the problem for a few weeks, then it was back to "normal" sewerage pollution.

This must be a concern to all the people in the country, don't blame others, step up and do something. By the time we open our eyes it might be to late.

We should not supply answers and voice our complaints once it is to late. Prevent the problems or fix it as soon as it arise. Where our Heads op departments, where are our Health Inspectors, where are our supervisors that is responsible to maintain and operate our systems?
